After two grueling weeks, we all can rest easy after submitting to the Dogs of Calgary Calendar Contest… said nobody on the morning of Saturday, September 15, 2018, in Calgary. Especially if you have a dog!
We have long ago lost count of the sheer number of dogs that have come in over the last fourteen days. I mean, Calgary has about 1 dog for every 10 homes. So that means, like, a bazil… that’s a lot of dogs! One thing sticks out for sure. Every last dog we saw was a Dog of Calgary and they all look like they are loved immensely. Okay, well, some of them didn’t look very impressed to be wearing Halloween costumes but… they can get over it cuz they’re cute, so there.
The Countdown Begins!
The announcement of the first 12 dogs to be on the first Dogs YYC Dogs of Calgary Calendar will be at 7 p.m. tonight, Calgary time (September 15, 2018). We will be attempting to “simulcast” the announcement to Facebook live and Instagram live. Our team hasn’t found a really effective way to post the pictures up while we are running the video so we will have a team member post the dogs, by month, to Facebook and Instagram in separate posts. We hope that you will join us for the announcement video and we wish you all the best of luck.
There was some debate within our team about announcing the dogs ahead of time. We have chosen to do the announcement ahead of time after many entrants requested we do so. We will see how this goes as there are many opinions about this direction. Either way, it should be kind of fun. We have five judges who will be overseeing the four seasons and Halloween. They all know what is expected of them… we think. We don’t know if they really understand the sheer number of them.
One last thing on the video, please bear with us, we are a small business and we will most probably have some technical difficulties. What matters is that we have it where it counts: the dog pictures, the printer, and a city full of amazing dog people!
To All the Dogs of Calgary Calendar Contest Entries… Thank You
As you all know, we could not have done this without you. This contest was to help a pet rescue charity get a boost for next year. We wouldn’t have a calendar without all the doggo pictures that were submitted. This contest was also a way to bring Calgarians and people in the nearby towns together around their shared love of paws, tails, and wet noses. We even saw one real reconnection on Facebook between two women who felt out of contact! This just something else for the people of Calgary to have fun with.
As you all know, of course, we will only be able to put 12 dogs on the calendar. If it were up to me, you would have a calendar that would never hang on the wall. Maybe you could build a big frame out of 2x4s and nails & stuff but that’s about it. We have to whittle down this doggy pile to 12 dogs who will be on the first Dogs of Calgary Calendar. So, let me say again how thankful I am that we all go to do this together. I also want to ask everybody to consider the main goal here: to support the Pawsitive Match Rescue Foundation. Please buy a calendar. This project will be expensive to print and we are hoping to get calendars into Calgary’s homes and offices. Especially those of the folks who entered!
We have had a few sales trickling in already which is great and we are hoping to keep them coming in. Follow the link at the top of the page or this handy button below to go and pick one up!
Thanks so much, Calgary, for your participation and for your generosity! Good luck, everybody!
Our featured image is Snowbear. Snowbear passed away very recently. We received this picture the day after she died. In this picture, she is SnowBEE. The vest ended up doubling as a “Thundervest” for her anxiety, which had the fun side effect of letting her family watch a big bee zip around their backyard in the snow!
